Dencor Bill Reducer

Simple Whole-House Energy Control:  Control selection, and daily on-off control periods for each day of the seasons.  The Bill Reducer allows four separate control seasons with a start month and date.

Relief from High Bills:  The Dencor Bill Reducer makes it easy to save money on Time-of-Use energy rates. The Bill Reducer automatically shifts energy use from high cost on-peak periods to low-cost off-peak periods. The Bill Reducer controls major loads such as electric water heaters, heat pumps, air conditioners, baseboard heaters, thermal storage units, and pool pumps. The result is lower electric bills.

Special Designs
The Bill Reducer is an ideal platform for special control applications. Consult Dencor to discuss design details.

Easy to Operate:  The Bill Reducer keeps track of peak periods even if the peak times change with each season. Control of loads is automatic. Loads control may be overridden load by simply pushing a button. The Bill Reducer tells you when you are on-peak and off-peak and whether each load is on or off. Charging of thermal storage units may be automatically limited to a specified time interval.

Reliable:  The Bill Reducer operates for years without requiring maintenance. The accurate Quartz crystal clock in the Bill Reducer is designed to maintain accurate time for up to fifteen years without power. The memory keeps your settings even during power outages.

FEATURES

Versatile

The automatic operation of the Bill Reducer makes it easy to turn off the hot water heater at night. Loads are automatically turned off during peak cost periods. Partial energy may be provided to one or two loads by specifying the number of minutes of run-time for each 30 minute interval.

All Year Programming

The control parameters for an entire year are preset. These include leap year, daylight saving time, seasons, weekend control selection, and daily on-off control periods for each day of the seasons. The Bill Reducer allows four separate control seasons with a start month and date.

On-Off Periods

Two on-off periods per day for each season allows the controlled loads to be turned off during both morning and evening peak cost period.

Energy Control Station

The D200 T Energy Control Station displays time and allows operation of the Bill Reducer from a location of your choice. Eight lights show the on or off status of the load control relays. Two red lights indicate when on-peak and off-peak intervals are occurring. Four push buttons make it easy to override control and obtain extra energy when needed. A beeper may be turned on to sound briefly at the start of each on-peak period.

Override Options

Load overrides may be chosen to be permanent (until button is pushed again), or to end at midnight, or to be active for a selected interval up to 240 minutes.

Staged Power-up

When power is applied after an outage, the controller sheds all the loads and then restores one load control relay every minute to provide a gradual increase in load. Also, at the end of control periods, one load control relay is restored every minute.

Temperature Display and Override

The D200 T contains a temperature sensor. It displays the temperature as well as uses temperature to limit control if necessary. Limits may be set to override control if the temperature exceeds an upper limit or falls below a lower limit. This is important where freeze protection is needed.

Utility Control

An input permits an external contact to activate control. This allows a utility to activate load shedding even if in the off-peak period. Either an open contact or a closed contact may be specified to activate control.

Three Implementation Choices

The full power of the D200 T Energy Control Station is available with a choice of three different control implementations.

a. Power Line Carrier - Use PLC receivers for all loads for simple installation. Especially useful for controlling air conditioners and heat pumps.

b. UICT Power Relay Enclosure - Use a simple enclosure with power relays when controlling several large loads such as baseboard heaters, ETS units, and water heaters.

c. Series 100T Relay Enclosure - Use a mixture of power relays and low-voltage contacts for control of heat pumps, water heaters, and pool pumps.

Power Line Carrier

With a low cost PLC system the D200 T Energy Control Station can be used as a stand-alone controller where all loads are controlled via signals sent over the 120/240 Vac house wiring. Simply plug in a PLC513A transmitter and the desired PLC receiver modules. One receiver module is needed for each remote load to be controlled. This results in a system that is very versatile and simple to install. It is especially advantageous when the loads to be controlled are in difficult-to-reach locations or attached to wall outlets, such as waterbed heaters. The PLC513A uses the X-10 Powerhouse code format. It is compatible with receivers sold by Leviton, General Electric, Stanley, Radio Shack and Heath/Zenith Co. Typical applications include control of multiple heat pumps. Use of the PLC may require mounting the Energy Control Station on a 2-gang box.

If several power circuits are needed, it may be advantageous to use a relay enclosure also. The relay enclosure may be used instead of, or in addition to, power line carrier modules.

UICT Power Relay Enclosure

When a large number of loads connected to 20 or 30 Ampere circuit breakers must be controlled, it is best to use a UICT relay panel with enough relays to control all the loads. Typical applications include baseboard heat, ceiling cable heat, electric thermal storage units, and water heaters.

The relays contacts in the UICT Power Relay Enclosure are rated by the manufacturer at 30 Amperes which assures long contact life and reliable operation. The contacts are rated by Dencor at 24 Amps to be compatible with loads connected to 30 Ampere breakers.

The D200 T Energy Control Station is easily wired to the UICT Power Relay Enclosure with a four-wire Class 2 Cable. The D200 T may be placed at a convenient location for control and the UICT enclosure placed near the load center.

The power relays are DPST-NC with 30 Ampere contacts rated 24 Amperes
or 1.5 hp at 240 Vac.

* Insert one of the following to define the enclosure: "S" for indoor enclosure
for surface mounting (Lid is the same size as the enclosure); "I" for indoor
enclosure for flush mounting (lid is larger than the enclosure); and "W" for
Raintight enclosure with screw cover, add 1 lb. for shipping. UL and CSA
listed.

100T Series Relay Enclosures

The 100T Series relay enclosures provide control using both low-voltage and power relays. Enclosed relays provide quiet operation. The relay contacts are rated by the manufacturer at 25 Amperes for long contact life and reliable operation. The contacts are rated by Dencor at 24 Amps to be compatible with loads connected to 30 Ampere breakers.

Low voltage circuits are used to control air conditioners or heat pumps. The low voltage circuits may be cycled to obtain partial energy reduction. For example, 15 minutes on during each 30 minute period. Power circuits are used to control water heaters or pool pumps. EXP-24 modules may be added for additional low voltage circuits.

Dependable:  The Bill Reducer is built by Dencor, an experienced manufacturer of residential and commercial energy control Power equipment. It provides all the features found important in tens of thousands of successful installations.

The Model 101T, 104T and 108T have enclosed relays. The enclosed power relays are DPDT rated at 24 Amperes or SPST-NC rated at 30 Amperes. Class 2 circuits are SPDT with contacts rated 2 Amperes at 24 Vac. UL and CSA listed.

Two-Year Warranty

A two-year limited warranty is provided for all parts. Dencor load control systems are listed by Underwriters Laboratory and CSA.
